Menu Plan Feb. 19-25

Friday night, and I'm posting the menu plan tonight, before I go shopping for the groceries tomorrow. I actually am starting to enjoy menu planning! It's getting easier and easier. Look what we had for lunch today.

I almost felt bad for eating such a beautiful meal during lent. We had some cheddar bread from a local bakery. You can make any grilled cheese sandwich "gourmet" by adding different cheeses. This one has swiss, colby-jack, and parmesan. Yummm. I forgot I had blue cheese and Appenzeller in the fridge, or I would have added them both and loved it...but that would have really been pushing it for a Friday meal during lent.

So, on to the menu.

Sunday
Fondue - the Swiss way. Nobody makes it like my mama makes it. And you haven't tasted real fondue until you have had a real Swiss fondue. And yes, it's cheese fondue, there is no other fondue, in my humble, Swiss, opinion. =)

Monday
Slow cooked pulled pork. I am going to tweak my favorite sloppy joe recipe and make it into pulled pork and hope it all works out. Potatoes, corn, and coleslaw on the side.

Tuesday
Pasta night! Spaghetti and tomato sauce. Probably garlic bread too. Haven't been making my own bread lately, so I'll just spread some melted butter over some sliced bread, then sprinkle salt and garlic powder on it. Maybe I'll press fresh garlic. That is so much better. Then I stick it under the broiler, and voila. Actually, it's better when I just put it in the oven on 375 for a longer time. Then the garlic doesn't burn. Maybe now that I'm planning this, I'll actually remember to do this before I run out of time and have to use the broiler. =)

Wednesday
Some chicken dish. I think I'm going to see what this sweet & sour dish tastes like.

Thursday
Slow cooked chili and cornbread.  I winged my last chili. It was good.  Better on the second day. This time I will try something like this, with ground turkey, black beans, chick peas, and pinto. I need a great chili recipe. Still haven't found it.

Friday
FISH FRY! Sorry. Super excited about that one, even though the last fish fry I went to was rather ick. Maybe I'm just getting older and don't enjoy deep fried food quite as much as I did when I was 17, but the thought of a fish fry still makes me go..FISH FRY!! WOOHOOO! =)

Saturday
Breakfast: Trying the overnight waffles Jen posted about. I got a waffle maker from the thrift shop!
Dinner: Pork dumplings (the kind that comes in a frozen bag from the Asian food store or any store), rice, and stir fried veggies. I do like buying that "stir-fry veggie" bag in the frozen food section. I like those crunchy water chestnuts.

What are you cooking this week?

  1. Too funny about the guilt. I felt the same way with my veggie pizza last night - it was so pretty, and tasted so good. We were supposed to have bean and rice tostadas but my husband had bought beans with meat in them.

I haven't made our menu up yet, but it will be a use-up what I have kind of week. Toasted pb sandwiches were a kid hit this past week, along with ice-cream for dinner on Tuesday, and a night of chicken/apple sausages served with sweet potato fries and broccoli. I look forward to making a new Chinese dish tomorrow: Orange Chicken.

    Have a good week!

    1. I hear you, Friar Don, fast food gets old after a while...nothing like a home-cooked meal.
